Main Entrance to the IUAV

Carlo Scarpa elaborated various versions for the project of a new main entrance to the Istituto Universitario di Architettura Venice (IUAV). Finally he concentrated forces on two crucial points, resulting in the elaborate form of the boundary wall and the marble profiling which is to be found at the ground level of the existing door, which gives access to the ancient convent. The opening in the mentioned boundary wall, made of exposed concrete and featuring a dramatically protruding canopy, can be closed by a complex sliding door. Aside from these interventions, Carlo Scarpa's work for the IUAV also included the design for the great hall, the new refectory annex for the student residence hall and an outdoor staircase.
Carlo Scarpa erarbeitet verschiedene Versionen für das Projekt eines neuen Haupteingangs für das Istituto Universitario di Architettura Venedig (IUAV). Schliesslich konzentrierte er seine Kräfte auf zwei entscheidende Punkte: die aufwendigen Formen der Begrenzungswand und die Marmor Profilierung auf dem Boden bei der bestehenden Tür, welche Zugang zum alten Kloster gibt. Die Öffnung in der genannten Begrenzungswand aus Sichtbeton wird durch ein dramatisch vorspringendes Vordach gedekt, und kann durch eine komplexe Schiebetür geschlossen werden. Abgesehen von diesen Interventionen umfasste Carlo Scarpas Arbeit für die IUAV auch Entwürfe für die grosse Halle, den neuen Refektorium Anbau an das Studentenwohnheim und eine Aussentreppe .
